I have been practising Indian Classical music for over 40 years and my music has taken me around the world. There are several instruments native to India and we'll get to know about some of them, including the tabla, sitar and pakhawaj. You're welcome to sing with me and try your hands on the instruments. I'll talk about differences and similarities between Indian and Western music. We'll then cover aspects of music made popular in Bollywood and Indian folk music – giving you an insight into the diversity you'll find across the country! I'll end with sharing my experiences of performing around the world and what it takes to become a global performer. 2.5 hours is a small amount of time to cover what I have learnt and experienced in my 40-year journey but let's try the best we can :)
I've been a practitioner of Indian Classical music for 40 years under tutelage of Pt. Mani Prasad, a maestro of the famous Kirana Gharana. I have performed & led workshops around the world. I was associated with Aurobindo Ashram, Sangeet Bharati & many more reputed organizations as honorary consultant musician. For the last 30 years, I’ve been running Sur Mandir, a society for art and culture.
