We’ll meet you at London Victoria, one of the capital's main railway stations with your tickets ready. We navigate the complexity of Britain’s train networks so you don’t have to! After an hour or so on a train, the sprawl of London’s suburbs will have melted into the rolling ridges of the South Downs - the National Park we’re about to explore. Once off the train, we’ll walk and talk and introduce you to the places we love. There will be views to capture and fresh air to breathe in, as we walk towards the sea. The Seven Sisters are classic white chalk cliffs, the quintessential English coastline. We'll show you the best spots to take them all in. On the way - traditional villages, rare marshes, seabirds, grazing sheep and more. If there’s time, we’ll take you to meet the mysterious giant who guards this ancient landscape. You can see the outline of the Long Man of Wilmington on the hillside from miles away - no-one knows for sure who he is or how he got there, but there are all sorts of stories! When you’re ready, we’ll take you back towards the train. On the way, we can stop at one of our favourite English country pubs. We'll help you choose a local brew - the perfect end to a hike, we find! Then the train will take us back into London and we’ll return you to the station where we started: relaxed, refreshed and ready to face the city again.
I’ve been walking in the English countryside since I was a small boy, obsessed with maps. 30 years later, my wife Yulia and I escape from the bustle of London most weekends to go for a walk. Together we can share with you our favourite routes that showcase the beauty and history of the counties of Sussex and Kent. Through our long experience, we know where to find the footpaths and bridleways that lead to the royal castles and great houses. We can take you through quaint villages and historic woodlands, over chalky hills to dramatic cliffs. As experienced journalists and broadcasters on radio and TV, we’ll tell you the stories of the places we’re walking through and we can answer your questions about Britain today.
