We'll meet at the Waves for Change office at Muizenberg Beach for a two-hour surf lesson. Then we'll jump into the Waves for Change combi and head over to Masiphumelele township for lunch, where we'll learn more about Apish's life-changing work with kids from the vibrant and colourful community that is Masi'.
Other things to note
Please let us know if you are vegetarian. Lockable facilities are available at the beach but we would encourage you to travel light and to leave valuables at home.

Waves for Change has developed an award-winning program to improve the wellbeing and emotional stability of young people who have been adversely effected by violence and abuse. We call it surf therapy. From an initial reach of 10 children in the township of Masiphumelele, the program has since grown to reach more than 400 children, teachers, and parents every year.

We'll be surfing Muizenberg - nominated by National Geographic as one of the World’s best learn to surf destinations! We'll be eating lunch at nearby township Masiphumelele (pronounced Mas-i-poom-i-lay-lay), named after a Xhosa word that translates to, “We will succeed."

- Apish is such a special soul, and his story is SO powerful. This, combined with the beautiful beach, really made this one of my best Airbnb Experiences. Even though we were a group of three with both advanced and brand new surf experiences, he was an expert, patient teacher. The braai was delicious, and literally Apish knew EVERYONE in his neighborhood. It was awesome to see that kind of transformation!
- One of the best decisions of my life to join this amazing adventure. I learnt the basics of surfing in a environment which was safe and supporting. Today I learnt a lot about Cape Town, and myself. If you have ever tought to Surf and never had the courage or time to go and Surf this is your moment! Also if you have experience, but want to know about Cape Town and South Africa from an expert, this is for you! Thank you and I will be back again!
- Apish is a really nice person! He’s a good teacher, patient and calm! It’s so nice to surf with him. Me and my friend stood up on the board thanks to him. In the meantime he’s doing a lot for his community! We shared a wonderful meal in his neighborhood, this activity is really immersive! We enjoyed every minute of it and we would to recommend it to anyone who wants to have a unique experience ! Thanks a lot!
