Meet me at the threshold of Vatican City (after you've had a nourishing breakfast)! There are 551 steps to the top of Michelangelo's Dome, too much exertion for most, so we take the elevator partway leaving 380 steps to climb. Don't stress, we take our time and enjoy plenty of breaks along the way, and if anyone in the group doesn't feel up to the climb, I'll show them to a safe waiting area. At the summit, from the highest point in Rome I will show you some of the most famous landmarks in Rome such as the Vatican Gardens, Pantheon, Colosseum and the King Victor Emmanuel Monument. We'll take plenty of photographs and selfies galore -after all you're a long way up and it's been a once-in-a-lifetime climb so why hold back? Before heading down we'll take a quick break at the café (who knew there was a café on top of St. Peter's?) in case you might want to purchase a cappuccino or croissant and replenish a few calories! Next stop is a walk through St. Peter's Basilica - a triumph of art and architecture unmatched anywhere else in the world, where I'll show you Bernini's and Michelangelo's sculptures before taking you the "Vatacombs", the mysterious and often overlooked tombs of former Popes located under St. Peter's.
I'm the founder of a small Tour company based in Rome called When In Rome Tours. Over the past 15 years I have had the pleasure of interacting with clients from all over the world, and listening to what they love about Rome. Based on their feedback, I'm here to offer a different kind of "tour" as a host. Along with my colleagues such as Roberta who is a born and bred Roman, art lover, food aficionado and fitness queen, our experiences have been created not just to "show you" our city, but to spend a few hours together that will create lifelong memories.
