We will meet at the top of the Cat City Cove a mile and a half south of 111. From there we will hike up Dunn Road to "The View" and back. Stopping along the way for breaks and for me to explain the history of The Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument, Dunn Road, The the flora and fauna and some general history about Cat City and different Coachella Valley landmarks we will be able to see on our way up, and at the top we will see behind the foothills and a view of wilderness and the San Jacinto mountain range you will not believe . Then on the way down, well people don’t usually do too much talking because their Calves and Gluts are on fire! Ha! Not only is it beautiful but it’s a hell of a workout! So Bring plenty of water snacks and cover up from the sun. This event happens rain or shine, no matter the temperature unless it is unsafe due to flooding or extreme wind. Otherwise we hike.
I’ve been hiking around this desert for five years and have gotten lost and stuck enough that I know my way around these hills :) And I've been an adventurer my whole life and have survived :) I will take you up trails you don't find in most guidebooks, or that are too extreme for most hikers. Mostly because they are really steep climbs and there are falling rocks, Giant Rabbits, Bighorn Sheep, Rattlesnakes, Coyotes, Tarantulas, Black widows, Mountain Lions, Oh my! We probably won't see any of those animals because they are afraid of us! But If any of that stuff scares you then you do not want to come into the wilderness with me, if that all sounds fun, then sign up!!!
2 bottles of water per person.
1. Multiple lookouts to point out landmarks down on the valley floor. 2. Dunn road bulldozer tires and construction debris and explain the 50 year history of the road. 3. Explain the difference in all the public lands we will be on. Forest Service Land, Tribal land, Bureau of Land Management land and all of it in The Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument. 4. Point out tracks, animal droppings, and animal habitat. 5. Etc etc...
