First of all, you will briefly learn about the history of natural paints, how people used to paint with natural colors in the ancient times ~ painting as a very natural way of expressing one's thoughts and feelings, capturing the everyday life. We will go out to explore the landscape, searching for the pigments in the wild nature. To make this experience more authentic we will do the whole process inside the volcano since they are a great source of deep and rich colours. First we forage the samples and then I will show you how to make watercolour paints out of them. Each one of you will get a chance to try painting on a piece of fabric which you will take as a souvenir made with your hands, painted with stones and soil from the island. You will also get a little sample pack to take home with you. I just can't wait to share all I've learned so far with you !
I'm an artist living on Lanzarote, originally from Slovakia. I've been working with textiles almost my whole life, exploring different ways of creating with nature, learning about different materials and the whole process behind. My work is mainly focused on dyeing raw fabrics with nature ~plants, food waste, earth pigments and then combining various techniques like weaving, sewing, crochet or knitting to turn it into something useful. The idea is to teach people how to create natural colours in order to avoid polluting the earth with synthetic ones. The whole process of making a paint and understanding the importance of each step is like a color therapy to me, a certain form of meditation that awakens all your senses, ~ creating with your whole body, mind and soul.
I will take you for a little tour around the island, searching for the pigments
