Our life and our tours are governed by the tides which are roughly an hour later every day, hence the daily time variations to ensure we always "go with the flow". Tours normally use stable double kayaks (single are available for experienced paddlers and carry a £5 supplement). All kayaking equipment is provided and tours last 3 hours. After a short briefing we paddle from Golant with the tide. Our Creeks & Backwaters tour will take you up the estuary on the high tide and along "Wind in the Willows" Creek to picturesque Lerryn village. By contrast our low tide Wildlife & Waterfronts tour paddles down the estuary's wooded foreshores to Fowey's historic harbour. Tours start and finish in Golant and include a 30 minute break in Lerryn or Fowey where there are plenty of eating and drinking options. Herons, egrets, cormorants, shags, various waders and gulls are usually seen as are kingfishers, sandpipers and oystercatchers most months of the year. If you're lucky you might see a seal, a dolphin or a migrating osprey hunting for fish. Our Boatshed base has a seasonal cafe and nearby is the excellent Fishermans Arms pub which overlooks the estuary. Parking nearby is available.
David and Karen run Encounter Cornwall, which since 2006 has been operating guided kayak tours on the Fowey Estuary, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and a Marine Conservation Zone. Our tours run from our quiet , safe and sheltered Boatshed base in Golant at the heart of the Fowey Estuary. We are rated No 1 activity in the Fowey Area on Trip Advisor and won 3 Cornwall 2018-19 Tourism Awards (Guided Tour, Wildlife Friendly Business and Sporting & Active Experience). Our tours are an ideal introduction to kayaking, to the Fowey's tidal waters and wildlife, and are suitable for anyone who is reasonably fit, including complete beginners. We are passionate about the estuary wildlife which include kingfishers, herons, egrets, cormorants and waders and if you're very lucky a seal or a dolphin. Tours operate daily throughout the year.
Our seasonal Boatshed cafe run by Carol is open during school holidays and every weekend from April to the end of August…
Kayaks, paddles and buoyancy aids are all provided and we have a small stock fo dry bags and waterproofs which are available…
Kayaks get you to places others can't visit and put you on a level with the estuary's birds and waterfronts. The Fowey Estuary is a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and Marine Conservation Zone. Its steep ancient wooded valleys are timeless, steeped in history and a haven for wildlife. Fowey, Lerryn and our Golant base have been settlements for over 1000 years and are all relatively unspoilt and undiscovered backwaters of Cornwall.
最多可有10位年满5周岁的参与者参加。 Guests should be reasonably fit (can walk a couple of miles).
Dress for the weather as if you were walking. Legs often get splashed so waterproof trousers or shorts are good.
Our trips are an enjoyable and relaxing introduction to kayaking and the Fowey Estuary and not an endurance test. A reasonable level of fitness is enough (able to walk a couple of miles). Our double kayaks are very stable and capsizes are extremely rare.
