This experience is special! It is a food walk! but a journey into hope and life too, even against the backdrop of war. I don't want to tell stories of desperation...and there are so many. But want to show you signs of hope, hard work, luck; i call you to witness an amazing story in itself: the new "Little Syria" of Istanbul. In Fatih, one of the crowdest neighborhoods of the Old City of Istanbul, not only thousands of Syrian refugees settled after leaving their war-torn country, they also opened dozens of shops, restaurants, coffeehouses, groceries, patisseries, perfumeries, and so on. In the last few years, the flavors and smells of this part of the city changed dramatically and I invite you to join me in discovering this amazing display of vitality, against all odds. We visit several shops and eateries. We taste and look and smell and talk, and possibly buy. We meet amazing persons, probably willing to answer your questions and tell their stories, sharing their difficulties and their success. We have the most incredible Middle Eastern, Syrian, Iraqi, Palestinian, Turkish, Kurdish foods We'll visit the magnificent imperial mosque of Fatih as well Be prepared to be surprised!

I am a home chef and gourmet. Actually, I am working as an academician in university here in Istanbul I love this city, know it well and love to share. I love the history, the peoples, the foods. Besides managing our own Airbnb houses and leading a few interesting and appealing "experiences" I also guide several cultural and culinary Walking Tours as a private guide to the discovery of hidden gems and secret monuments of this wonderful fascinating city. Please feel free to ask for more about it, if interested. I am particularly interested in political aspects of cultural traditions, religion and social realities "Whoever travels without a guide, needs two hundred years for a two-day journey". ___Rumi

We venture into the roads and alleys of Little Syria, in the neighborhood of Fatih. We visit several shops and eateries walking around in the neighborhood, seat in some cafe, tasting snacks and street food items, sipping çay/black tea or strong coffee. We will have crispy Falafel, creamy Fattah or Hummus, freshly squeezed Fruit Juices and Cocktails, warm Maneesh from the oven... for breakfast or lunch (depending on the time)
