In my city walking based tours, you will walk a complete circuit on and around the 400 year old historic walls of Derry/Londonderry, and you have the additional option to do a visit to the Guildhall, the city's town hall, as well as crossing the 2011 built modern peace bridge. The walls of the city were built between 1613-1619 and as we walk on and around the 1.5 km circumference in an approximate 1.5 hours, I will tell the history of the city from its BC origins, to the monastery of St Columba in 542 AD, coming of the Vikings, the Normans, and Irish and Scottish chieftains and clans, the coming of the English and Scottish planters in the 1600's, the 3 sieges of the city and in particular the Great Siege of 1688-1689, part of a major European conflict, emigration to the USA after the penal laws and Irish potato famine, industralisation, bridge building, railways and shirt factories, and its role in 2 World Wars, Partition, the Cold War and the recent Troubles and Peace Process. If the dates or times you are interested in are not initially listed as available, please send me a message/question and I may be able to arrange a customised tour for your group.
I run a part-time tour guiding business called Derrie Danders Walking Tours. I am a local based guide in Derry/Londonderry and was born and bred in the city and have lived there most of my life. I am an accountant by profession but history is my passion. My work has allowed me to travel extensively in Europe and having taken many tours from local guides, I believe I know what makes a good tour for my guests and seek to deliver this. I encourage visitors to "Linger longer in Londonderry and enjoy a dander around Derry" I strive to be politically neutral and historically accurate and cover the whole history of my home city from its origins to the modern day. I do not focus on the difficult period known as the Troubles between 1969-1994, preferring to cover the resulting peace process instead.

As the Walls are 400 years old and built on a hill, a moderate level of fitness is required. Some locations are not accessible by wheelchair but if advised in advance, I can modify the route so that most guests can participate.
