I will pick you up at the visitors center on the bay, then we will begin our tour in America's oldest neighborhood--1559 (of course the Native Americans were here first, so these are the first Europeans to come to our shores). Then we will drive up Scenic Highway, atop Florida's only coastal bluffs along Pensacola and Escambia Bays . Scenic Highway isn't on most tours in town, if any, so I have researched the centuries-long history here and take you to one spot that isn't open to the public--a tiny neighborhood on the bay called Gull Point. Next we go back downtown and drive through the Seville Historic District (the oldest in Florida), make a stop at Seville Quarter, an entertainment complex in an 1880's tobacco warehouse, take Palafox Street to the bay, then make two more stops along the bay before heading north to the North Hill Preservation District. IF the group would like, I would greatly enjoy ending our tour at our city's most Pensacola-centric restaurant in the East Hill neighborhood called "Brew Ha Ha" for a selfie at the "Greetings from Pensacola" postcard painted on the side of the building. What I love most about providing tours is the wealth of fascinating trivia about Pensacola I've dug up pouring through the archives over the decades I've lived here!
Robin And Michael
I (Robin) was a Florida travel writer for more than 20 years and am passionate about Pensacola's rich history. My husband and I have lived here more than three decades, and I want to share my knowledge of not only places you can find in the tourist guides, but the hidden gems that make the experience more worthwhile. For example, although the North Hill Preservation District is filled with estate homes from the 1870s to the 1930s, there were once FOUR wooden forts on top of the hill, looking towards downtown and the bay. The 61-day Battle of Pensacola (1781) was fought here (British against Spanish), but most tourists will only get to know it as a place with lovely homes. I have written numerous articles about Pensacola history and its wonderful marine and land archaeology as well as travel guides for Frommer's and Insiders' Guides.
