After meeting at Nippori station (JR Yamanote line), we walk to my home which takes only 5 minutes. I will first introduce Nerikiri (Japanese confections which is served at a tea ceremony), and the ingredients and tools. Nerikiri is made of white beans and shaped beautifully. You will make 5 designs of nerikiri learning how to shape them with nerikiri tools. I will decide 3 designs and you will get to choose 2 more designs from some options. After making the Nerikiri, we will make matcha tea. The matcha tea will accompany the delicious nerikiri we made. We usually taste one Nerikiri with matcha tea. You can take the rest home. Nippori is famous for Yanaka Ginza (traditional street where there are many shops) and Fabric town. Ueno Park and Kappabashi (Kitchenware town) is also near by (20 minute walk). Many of my guests go to Kappabashi after my class to get the tools we used. I will recommend you some shops. Please enjoy this area after the cooking class! Note : The Nerikiri dough and Anko (red bean paste) will be prepared by the instructor before the class. But I will explain how to make and give you the recipe for Nerikiri dough (Easy version using ready made white beans). If you want to learn the traditional way (cook from beans...3.5-4 hour class), please inquire.
Note: I conduct classes everyday (Instagram: narikos_kitchen). Please inquire if your preferred date is not on the calendar:) 10AM...Monday to Sunday open 4PM...Monday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday open Konnichiwa! I’m Nariko and I offer Japanese cooking classes out of Nariko’s Kitchen, a cooking studio centrally located in Tokyo. I was a child who always liked to help my mother in the kitchen. I gained more interest on cooking when I lived abroad and had a chance to do cooking sessions as part of my job. Until recently, I’ve been teaching Japanese cooking in Malaysia as a cooking instructor and conducted classes for individuals and companies, and also gave cooking demonstration at cultural events. Come join me and try a hands-on cooking class offered in a Japanese home!
