We will meet at the Visitor's Center at the National Arboretum and set out for an approximately 3-mile moderate hike to explore some of the gardens, meadows and woods in this 400+ acre treasure. During our walk we will pause to highlight some of my favorite points of interest and unique history, while enjoying the beauty of our local flora and fauna along the way. I'll share all sorts of interesting stories of the Arboretum that most locals don't even know. Our walk will take about two hours and go over hilly and uneven terrain so I encourage wearing good walking shoes and dressing for the weather. Please note that per Airbnb's policy (which I can't change), this tour is rain or shine. I will cancel only if conditions make the tour unsafe (i.e. lightning).
I work at an international human rights non-profit and have traveled to 35+ countries, but one of my favorite places on earth is the U. S. National Arboretum, a hidden gem right in the city. I've helped with tours of the Arboretum as a volunteer for about 10 years and would love to show you my favorite spots and share what I've learned about this beautiful place.
a bottle of water for everyone
We will begin by exploring the incredible azalea collection that was the catalyst for the Arboretum opening to the public and have the opportunity to stand under the original U. S. Capitol Columns. We will make our way across the spacious landscaped grounds exploring some of keystone collections of the Arboretum including the unique Asian Gardens as well as the Native Plant and Conifer exhibits.

good comfortable walking shoes
If you are bringing a child under two, I don't recommend a stroller as a lot of the ground is uneven and would be difficult to traverse. Dogs are welcome as long as they are kept on leash.
