A one of a kind Jamaican experience. You will learn to play authentic traditional Jamaican and Afro-Caribbean drumming patterns and folk songs and chants. Conga, Djembe, Rastafari, Kumina drums provided.
The drum circle workshop is every Sunday evening 4:00pm-5:30pm. Class begins with warm up on the drums, then stretching, we then move into a series of exercises for tonal clarity and dexterity in this section beginners will understand technique and basic tones of the drum. We then move into whatever rhythm/folk form that is chosen for the day by me, learn all parts and variations. We cool down the class with Rastafari drumming and chanting or sometimes Kumina depending on the vibe.
Other things to note
The class is perfect for beginners intermediate and advanced drummers. Drums are provided for visitors that don't own a drum. However you are encouraged to bring a drum if you can.

Jesse Golding is a 25 year member of the world renowned National Dance Theatre Company (NDTC). As an experienced percussionist, he has toured extensively with the NDTC, showcasing the indigenous Afro-Caribbean sounds of the Drum far and wide. A son of the Arts, he could say that drumming is in his genes. His natural ability was further enhanced under the tutorship of Jamaican cultural icons, former Musical Director of the NDTC, Ms. Marjorie Whylie OD and the late great Professor The Honourable Ralston (Rex) Nettleford OM.

The experience happens on the compound of a Kingston landmark, The Little Theatre. The studios of the National Dance Theatre Company of Jamaica (NDTC) are located to the back of the property and that's where we will have the drumming experience.

- I have experience with different styles of drumming and my girlfriend is a beginner- we both really enjoyed this class! Jesse is very talented and was really fun to see his skills. He was also a very attentive teacher and gave each student attention and tailored the session to the different skill levels. The call and response singing/drumming at the end of the lesson felt like a very rare and special moment shared by everyone there that day.
