On this small-group art walk, I’ll take you to the best contemporary art galleries in Kreuzberg. This art walk is a chance for you to see current exhibitions at hidden spaces that are off the radar of most visitors to Berlin. The galleries show new and exciting work by emerging and established artists. The art we see will vary depending on the exhibitions, but you can expect to find a mix of contemporary painting, sculpture, installation, photography and video. I’ll tell you about the artists’ background and process and the curatorial themes of the exhibitions, and I will guide us through informal discussions of the work on display. You will have the opportunity not just to learn about Berlin’s artists and gallery scene, but most importantly, to talk about the work yourself! I am interested in having a conversation with you, not just explaining the work, which is why my group sizes are maximum of 5 guests. The best part of my tour is when you have a chance to respond to the work and get excited too.
Hi, I’m Liesl, an artist with a studio in Kreuzberg, the thriving heart of Berlin’s art scene. I grew up in Australia, studied fine art in Melbourne, lived as an artist in Brooklyn, then followed my heart to Berlin. I love researching and visiting Berlin’s artist run spaces and contemporary galleries. I’ve been planning art walks for friends for years, from the Lower East Side or Chelsea in Manhattan, Bushwick in Brooklyn or Fitzroy in Melbourne. Now that I am happily settled in Berlin, I’m excited to offer this art gallery experience and share Kreuzberg's gallery scene with you.
We’ll be in Kreuzberg, the creative heart of Berlin’s art scene, and home to many artists, including myself. We’ll visit four to six contemporary art galleries. We’ll be walking between the galleries, with a total walking time of about 30 minutes, and about 90 minutes indoors. Along the route I will point out my favourite cafes, bars, bookshops, restaurants, alternative spaces and Berlin’s best art supply store.
