This is a one-of-a-kind experience to work in an intimate setting with an internationally recognized champion of organic farming methods and sustainable food systems. You will participate in hands-on tasks (which may include any of the following: water management, worm maintenance, planting, soil preparation, composting techniques, and more depending on the season) so that you practice skills that you will be able to repeat at your home or in your community. You will leave with a solid understanding of how our urban Atlanta homestead functions from the crops that are currently in the ground, to our process for water usage, to how we incorporate compost and vermiculture into our food system and other seasonally specific details. No two workshops will be exactly the same, though similar principles will be emphasized at each gathering. Throughout the year the tasks will change as each season will require us to adapt and respond. This experience is perfect for people who are just beginning and for people who are experienced growers and would like a deeper understanding of the systems that impact their garden/farm. It is my passionate belief that growing local food and training others to do so can unite and inspire each one of us. In turn, we can nurture our families and build resilient communities. For 20 years, I have trained hundreds of young farmers and built thousands of gardens and farms across the United States. I am a trained permaculturalist and a self-taught local food revolutionary. I have created hundreds of composting systems, raised millions of worms and fed countless people and their communities. I look forward to sharing my knowledge with you in this engaging hands-on workshop.
