We meet in Old Mill Park near charming downtown Mill Valley, where we start our walking exploration of Marin's magical redwood forest. Following quiet backroads and footpaths, we visit quiet groves of ancient redwood trees and follow spring-fed creeks to natural pools and cascading falls. In this peaceful forest, unique to the northern California and southern Oregon coastal region, the sequoia semperviren soar hundreds of feet into the sky, providing an unequaled nature experience at base of mighty Mt. Tamalpais. Along the way, you learn about the coastal redwoods' amazing ecology and their clever adaptations for survival over many millions of years. It is a remarkable escape into nature on the slopes of beautiful Mt. Tam.

I grew up just over the hill from Muir Woods in Mill Valley. Mt. Tam and the redwood forests were a playground for myself and my childhood pals. Years later, I founded a nature walking company, Coastal Walkers, focusing on the region's abundance of nature trails and scenic coastal spots. My routes are uncrowded and peaceful, a wonderful way to experience northern California nature and the primeval forests of the ancient redwoods.

We meet in Mill Valley's Old Mill Park, just 20-30 minutes drive north of San Francisco. The town is nestled at the foot of Mt. Tamalpais, the locals' favorite peak. We stroll into an ancient redwood forest, following a fern-lined creek and hidden paths on this magical hike into the natural heart of Marin County. - We had a lot of fun with Ben on this hike across Mill Valley & Mt. Tam. It was a very refreshing, pleasant & informative hike. Ben shared his childhood stories about growing in the Mill Valley, details about flora & fauna, history of valley while taking us on a unseen areas. I would highly recommend this experience to both local & tourist coming to Bay Area.
- We had a wonderful time walking through the forest with Ben. I was afraid it would be too strenuous on my old knees but Ben knew all the twists and turns to keep the hike manageable for me. His knowledge of the forest was a treat and education and my granddaughter throughly enjoyed. I’d recommend this hike.
- An amazing experience during quarantine for Bay Area natives and new comers alike. The storytelling began literally as soon as we met up and didn’t end until the drop-off! I learned so much and took a lot of great photos of the redwoods. The hike is skillfully designed to ensure less rigor on the tail end (which I very much appreciated). Ben was a delight to say the least; it felt like a friend showing me around versus a distant tour guide. Definitely an experience I will remember for a long time! I would highly recommend to anyone looking to change up their routine and remember the wonders of the Bay. Safety was prioritized with masks, hand sanitizer, and distancing.
