Of the great historic cities of the world, only Rome & Cairo can even begin to rival Delhi for the sheer volume, beauty and density of historic remains and we shall start where it all began. Mehrauli prima facie is the "First City of Delhi" since it has the oldest remains in terms of Monuments dating back to the 9th century and has seen additions to it at the turn of every century, whether it be the ramparts of Lal Kot built in the 9th Century, or the Delhi Sultanate Architecture or the later additions by the Mughals or as late as the British Architectural Imprints. We shall be around the Qutub Minar complex and decipher why and after whom it's named so, head over to the Mehrauli Archeological Park which in itself has a few centuries of History and over 50 monuments to boast of, and if time permits head into the gullies which have many monuments hidden in the lanes co-existing with its 21st-century Inhabitants.
Born into a family of writers & brought up in Delhi, loving and writing about the city comes naturally to me, I love every bit of Delhi whether it be her cuisines, the street food or fine dines, its immersive & immense history, the people, the varied Architecture dating back to 2nd Century BC. I'm a SuperHost on AirBnB with over 600+ reviews & have been a part of the community since 2016, so hosting comes naturally to me. I gave up my career in Banking having started off at Deutsche Bank, to be my own Master & do stuff that's close to my heart. I'm a Biker, Adventurer & an Entrepreneur and would love to know your story while we explore Mehrauli - The First City of Delhi!
We'll be in and around Mehrauli Archeological Park, and walk to the Ahinsa Sthal, Ashoka Mission, Madhi Masjid, Baolis (Step-wells) of Mehrauli
