An Almaborealis knit workshop provides guests with the tools and knowledge to experience becoming a knitwear designer for the day. Visitors will be guided step-by-step through the design process of a knitted accessory of their choice; a scarf, snood or a beanie. Colour, pattern and texture are all discussed and used as part of the design process. My guests will choose from a variety of yarn, including lambswool, merino, and other natural fibres. Chosen designs will come to life through the magic of a hand operated knitting machine. Guests will be introduced and guided through every step of operating a knitting machine to guarantee a successful wooly outcome. The process from an initial idea through to a final warming and hand knitted item is fascinating - and what better souvenir to take home than a memorable experience and the product of your own creative process! Please note, if booking for two people, I will allow an extra hour (four hours in total for the session) to complete projects, and if booking for three, I will allow two extra hours (five hours in total for the session), to ensure each participant walks away happy with their finished fantabulous creations! :)
I am a knitwear designer with a BA (Hons) and MA in knitwear from Heriot-Watt University. I currently lecture at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design. Originally I come from Finland, so you can be assured that knitting runs tickety-boo in my veins (I knitted my first pair of mittens age 6 and crocheted at 5, so I know my knit n purl!). I’m particularly interested in a more sustainable and balanced way of producing clothing. I believe making your own is brilliant fun, therapeutic and enormously satisfying, and I wish to share this with others.
Tea/coffee/biscuits to keep you knitting, and recommendations for great places to eat in the area.
