We'll go through three local neighbourhoods and three peaceful parks and palaces, escaping the crowds and going off the beaten path. We'll start at the neighbourhood of Egia, to shortly after head up to Cristina enea, a hidden gem just round the corner. There we'll discover our first palace and the animals living free inside the city! We'll then cross the river and head up to the neighbourhood of Amara. There, we'll go through the main aspects of the day to day life of the locals and the modern Basque society, an incredibly complex territory, yet so enchanting that you risk wanting to stay and live here like me! After this, we’ll head up the hill to Aiete Park; one of the biggest parks in town, yet probably one of the most unknown. There I'll show you immense trees, a hidden cave and a palace where the most loved and hated personalities of these country stayed during their summer holidays. We'll finally descend our last park and palace in Miramar, where a Spanish queen put San Sebastian on the map during the ‘belle epoque’. Our final stop will be at a local tavern in el Antiguo, to sip all the lush green and intriguing history that you just learnt with a well deserved drink.
My name is Angel and I'm a freelance tour guide and an environmentalist. I run nature based experiences in the Basque Coast and I believe that while we travel it's important to be responsible of the impacts on your destination and also to connect with the nature around us. San Sebastian has got many faces and these parks and palaces are hidden gems that deserve being visited, because there you'll escape the crowds and understand why San Sebastian is what it is nowadays, while enjoying their thriving greenness. Every now and then I go to these parks in search of peace, to admire the plants and animals or to attend any of their many exhibitions. Let me show you the gardens and palaces where the citizens connect with nature and another face of this wonderful city that has got much more to offer than the crowded old town and the beaches.

We'll take an off the beaten path to go through the city, visiting local neighbourhoods and parks. We'll use back doors and short cuts in order to go to interesting places inside the parks, like caves, ponds and huge trees that you wouldn't find on a map. I'll tell you all about these parks and why they are so important from an environmental but also historical point of view. I can teach you how to recognize some of the species of trees.
This is pet and kids friendly activity, but you need to be a responsible owner or parent. It's important to bring suitable and comfortable footwear with you. This is a long walk through the city and it involves climbing up a little hill. Great rewards though!
