We will meet at Amicalola Falls State Park, home to Georgia’s tallest and most beautiful waterfall at 729,’ as well as the southernmost point of the famous Appalachian Trail. We will convene at the Picnic Shelter, on the right just past the Visitor Center. Please note, for entry into the park you will need to purchase a $5 parking pass. After a short intro, we will begin our “Day Hiker Masterclass” where students will learn everything needed to plan safe, fun experiences in the woods. We will cover awareness and personal safety, clothing, gear essentials, basic first aid, general trail/trail maps, and everything in between to be a well-prepared hiker. We will then hike up the breathtaking 175 stairs to the top of the famous Amicalola waterfall. (Of course, you are welcome to drive to the top if you are not up to this challenging hike.) We will meet in the Maple Restaurant located inside the lodge, for a yummy buffet lunch, included in course tuition. The views of the waterfall and from the lodge are absolutely stunning! The terrain is steep in places and the trail varies from wooded trail, to metal stairs, to cushy recycled tires on our return hike back down after lunch.
I grew up exploring the mountains of Southern Appalachia which led me on a self-discovery journey through walking in nature. I led hiking/backpacking trips in the Blue Ridge Mountains while opening a gear shop near some of my favorite trails. I sold my backpacking and hiking shop to thru-hike the 2,181 mile Appalachian Trail. After returning, I traveled all over the world teaching many types of yoga, dance, ceremony, and healing techniques. I am passionate about inspiring people to go outside and play. My calling is to empower others to celebrate their WILDNESS by exploring nature.
