You can't visit Portland without taking a hike in one of America's premier city parks, Forest Park!
Our hike will take approximately 2 hours at a moderate pace with plenty of opportunities to pause for photos and to enjoy the views. There are a variety of trails to choose, and we will pick the ones that suit your interest (flat and easy, hilly, or a mix of both?) No matter which route we take we will cross quaint wooden bridges, look for native plants, and keep a watchful eye open for great blue herons, hummingbirds, and woodpeckers.
I'll tell you a little about the history of the park, the Multnomah Indians who occupied this area for 10,000 years ago, and how everything changed when Lewis & Clark showed up in 1805.
Come alone or make a new friend on this walk in the woods. I look forward to meeting you!
NOTE: do to Covid-19, this hike is limited to two guests so as not to crowd the trails. Please bring a mask to wear for when we cannot maintain 6-feet social distance. Thank you!
Other things to note
Winter season can be rainy, but like true Oregonians we will hike in any weather! Wear shoes that can get muddy and bring a rain jacket if you have one. I have lightweight ponchos and umbrellas.
If you have any questions at all please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi, I'm Sarah! Welcome to the largest urban forest in North America and one of Portland’s most famous landmarks.
For six years I was the public information officer for Portland Parks & Recreation, which manages Forest Park, and got to know its history, trail system, and stories very well. In the past 3 years I’ve hiked 600 miles along her many trails - rain & shine.
Let me show you the ancient trees, magnificent ferns, and bubbling creeks of these ancient woods. Along the way I will share about the Multnomah Indians who lived here for 10,000 years, the Lewis & Clark expedition (and campsite), and the pioneers who settled in this magnificent place.
This hike is suitable for all interested in exploring a true Pacific Northwest Rainforest. All walking / hiking abilities welcome.

- If you like fresh air, some great views and to connect with nature a little this is a great way to spend a morning. Sarah gives you some background about the ecology, the park, park system and history of Portland along your hike. We made it up to Pittock Mansion and saw a great view of Portland.
- Sarah really knows Forest Park well and has walked nearly all of its trails. She's a compendium of information about the park and Portland and the time with her and her dog easily slipped by. She'll tailor the hike to your ability level and interest. I didn't want to attempt the park on my own and it was worthwhile to see it for the first time with Sarah.
- Sarah took us and our puppy to a quiet entrance of Forest Park and led us on a wonderful hike. We learned a lot about the park as well as Portland. She is very passionate about nature and preservation and we could tell through her words and actions. She took pictures for us and they look beautiful. Overall one of the best Experiences I've been on and I especially recommend this if you dislike large crowds or groups of tourists!
- Had a great short hike with Sarah and her lovely dog Walter. Sarah was very kind and knowledgeable and shared lots of interesting stories. Would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to experience Forest Park without having to spend lots of time researching or wandering around getting lost. If anything though I wish the hike had been longer - it was so nice - wish I had more time to spend there!
