Queer History at Historic Center's Main Landmarks This experience is given in English only or in Spanish only, please double-check your selected date. In this part, 1st of the Gay History experience, you will learn about LGBT ancient traditions at the Aztec House of Legacy before "these unspeakable sins" were punished by the Spanish Inquisition. You will see the Inquisition's Palace, a prison for sodomites, its hidden homophobic messages & the Old Customs House at the starting point of El Camino Real, turned a safe territory for gay couples, centuries ago. At St. Mary of the Instruction we'll talk about cloistered lesbians before a landmark place that we call "Crossroads of Diversity," where we share the stories of the cross-dressing ball of "Those 41" and that of Emiliano Zapata. Homosexuality in early 20th century is seen by Frida Kahlo's high school & that of "Los Contemporáneos," a group of gay scholars. We will talk about being a lesbian & a feminist in the 17th century as we visit the old economic hub of the Spanish empire while famous buildings line the full way. The home of Mr. Ignacio Vallarta (Puerto Vallarta) & the religious symbols outside are another focus point. We will guide you to many more surprising, centuries-old secrets amidst old convents & cantinas & will point to the beginning of 'Gay Bar Row' which you can visit in Part 2, booked separately.
For decades as a hobby & then as a professional activity, I have researched & shared the history of diversity that has been forgotten, left hidden or in the closet for most of its parts to help advance the fight for equality. I have earned my National Tour Guide License & also a Hosting Diploma by Walt Disney University in Florida. My curated & focused walks showcase Women's, Indigenous, LGBT, Jewish, US American & other diverse sides of history in Mexico at its relevant sites. I thrive to show our vast history, arts & traditions; from Mexico before Mexico & its founding in 1325 A.D., to date; not in a boring way but in one that I expect may amuse you. I share the stories from the diverse communities that shaped us at places where it happened. Malinche, Luis Carvajal, Sor Juana, Salvador Novo, Frida Kahlo & Robert Brady are part of it.
