Upon arrival you will be met with your own guide / tutor, then followed by a brief introduction into the Indonesian Ethnic music tradition . The first stop will be on our ethnical designed lounge for a brief introduction to Wayang, Indonesian Shadow Puppets on Video, followed by a live performance of Wayang. Learn how fun and captivating Wayang is, in your hand. Your third step is the Gamelan. Take a moment to learn and play this beautiful instrument, you’ll experience just how beautiful mesmerizing music comes out of it. The fourth stop will be the Percussion section where you can dive right into some simple arrangement and create some beat together. Instruments include the Bedug, Kendang, Dogdog and Djimbe. The tour then explore the bamboo musical instruments of Arumba from west java and the wooden Kolintang of Sulawesi. Along the way enjoy further discoveries of many ethnic instruments on display. Your tour ends with a sound bath , a relaxing experience of breathing techniques in sync with gamelan bass.
Introduced to the traditional Indonesian musical instrument at a young age, i have a deep interest and made me want to learn more about its roots. Now with more than 30 different instrument i have found and learn from all around Indonesia i want to share it with people all around the world. Most of the instrument are chromatically tune to enable them to be played together with a more modern instruments such as guitar, bass, drums and piano.
The Interactive Ethnic Music & Culture experience is held at Peneeda View Hotel, The Hotel is designed with Indonesian Culture in mind. The building that houses the instrument, where the experience takes place are spread over a Balinese Village-like Compound.
