We meet on the Plains of Abraham, the location of the famous Battle of the Plains of Abraham, the conquest of Quebec city by the British in 1759. Here's the plan : 1) Quick Warm-up & Introduction to Quebec city's History 2) Snowshoe Setup 3) Excursion in the Forest Trails The locals know about this : there are amazing forest trails on the Plains of Abraham, overlooking the St-Lawrence river. I will guide you to the exact place where 4500 british soldiers climbed, one night of september 1759, in order to win the famous Battle of the Plains of Abraham. We'll cover the history of the battle in detail, and I'll show you amazing spots in the forest (good pictures). 4) Native American History & Herbal Medicine We'll cover the Native American history of Quebec in detail. The Iroquois tribe had a good knowledge of herbal medicine. We'll harvest and use 3 medicinal plants during the excursion. 5) Maple Syrup Tasting After the snowshoe excursion, we go to a nice shelter which is part of the museum of the Plains of Abraham. I'll show you how we traditionally cook and eat maple syrup at the "sugar shack". It's called " tire d'érable ", usually translated as maple taffy. This is an essential element of french canadian culture that you have to try atleast once during your time in Québec. *NOTE* No prior snowshoe experience required.
I was born and raised in Quebec city. I’m a yoga teacher, personal trainer, and medical student. The Plains of Abraham are my playground : I've been snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, and playing hockey there for more than 15 years. It will be my pleasure to guide you through the forest trails, and share the history of the Battle of the Plains of Abraham with you! From december to march, this is a snowshoe excursion (snowshoe rental included). From april to november, we hike in the beautiful forest trails overlooking the St-Lawrence river. The maple syrup tasting, at the end, includes an authentic french canadian maple syrup taffy. You will also taste the different types of maple syrup : light, amber, and dark. It will be my pleasure to tell you everything about how maple syrup is produced, and used in cooking!
