Welcome to the Gardens of Nisala Arana where our cooking stations and culinary team have setup Spice School and are ready to teach you all about Sri Lanka food and the preparation of some of our favourite local dishes which you will get to enjoy at the end. The Cooking Class is set within acres of landscaped tropical gardens and features a mini cinnamon garden and coconut estate. I will begin by introducing you to the ingredients and particularly the spices which should be selected, prepared and mixed carefully to create the delicate curry mixes. You will learn about some rather uncommon vegetable and plants and their suitable substitutes from your home country. After an introduction to the various ingredients I will begin the workshop with guests participating in the cooking process and following the prepared recipes that you will also get to take home with you. We will be cooking on controlled wood fires which is a unique aspect of Sri Lankan cooking and a trained skill which I look forward to sharing with you. Once the cooking is done you will enjoy the meal we have prepared together. Please note cooking class timing will reduce with less guests.

The food prepared at Spice School will be served to the guests for Lunch and is included in the price.

All required cooking equipment and utensils are provided. We cook on open fires so please be cautious.
I conduct the Spice School workshop within the gardens of our private property in Bentota. The gardens are spread across acres of landscaped tropical gardens, cinnamon and coconut estate. Our cooking stations and dining table will be setup in the shade for your comfort.
