*** If your preferred date/time is not available, send me a message and I'll see if we can make it work! *** LEARN THE SKILLS YOU NEED TO MAKE BEAUTIFUL PORTRAITS USING ONLY NATURAL LIGHT! THIS CLASS CAN BE TAILORED TO FIT THE NEEDS OF BEGINNERS AS WELL AS SEASONED PHOTOGRAPHERS. First, we will meet at a coffee shop on a fun and vibrant street. After we get to know each other through introductions, I will present for 25 minutes on: - Basic camera settings - The difference between hard and soft light - The main elements of a great portrait - How to best interact with your subject Next, I will lead a hands on tutorial where we make portraits of each other using the principles and concepts from earlier. This will last about 25 minutes. The next portion of the class is where you will have the greatest opportunity to grow as a photographer. I will pair you up with another member of the class and you will each have 15 minutes to create the best portraits you can of each other. We will meet back at the coffee shop and use the remaining 40 minutes as an opportunity (1) learn how to edit a portrait on Lightroom and Photoshop and (2) receive a detailed photo critique from me. You will leave this class with the skillset and the confidence to create amazing natural light portraits wherever you go!
I have worked as a professional photographer for five years. I started out working for various publications at Gonzaga University and eventually took a photo job at their marketing department. I covered the 2017 Gonzaga basketball team all the way to the NCAA National Championships, I've shot a wedding, engagement photos, breaking-news photojournalism, and a wide variety of events. The past year I have narrowed my focus to portrait photography. I left a job in accounting to run my photo business here in Seattle. I occasionally bring in external lights, but my speciality is in natural light. Feel free to check out my work at www.gavindorem.us
When we first meet at Caffé Fiore, your coffee is on me!
We will be spending our class on California Ave in West Seattle, a fun and vibrant part of the city with lots of great portrait spots. We will practice portraiture at a variety of indoor and outdoor locations in the area.
This workshop is focused on natural light photography. Especially when traveling, it is important to know how to make amazing portraits using only natural and available light.
