You'll get fitted for your bike in downtown OKC's best park, the Myriad Gardens. After a brief introduction to urban cycling, we'll learn about the city's history and unbelievable founding with a race known as the Land Run. We'll travel though many districts to see skyscrapers, modern houses, historic buildings, a haunted hotel, luxurious mansions, The National Memorial, boathouses and learn about the architects and their design. We'll visit public art, sculptures, graffiti, bronze monuments and learn about the artist and the meaning behind their work. Our leisurely 7.5 miles ride consists of mostly flat terrain and stops frequently for photo opportunities. We'll discover off the beaten path hidden gems not found in travel books and hear the stories behind OKC's most celebrated and sometimes overlooked heroes and villains. Be prepared to be active and have fun and leave inspired about design and Oklahoma history. Check out our instagram @RideOKC.
I'm a licensed architect and two wheel enthusiast. I love OKC and riding bikes, but have spent most of my career traveling to design projects in other cities. In an effort to contribute to my own community, I co-founded Ride OKC (rideokc.com), a bike tour and rental company and began doing freelance architecture. I've contributed to the publication of an architecture guide book with the American Institute of Architects and have been invited to lead multiple architecture tours for groups such as the OKC Museum of Art, and Visit OKC.
We'll meet in downtown's most beautiful park, and ride past murals in Bricktown, past the canal, and the Oklahoma National Memorial. We'll ride to the Olympic Training Site on the river and see the Boathouse District. We'll see the Land Run Monument, the Flaming Lips art gallery. We'll go off the beaten path to see modern houses in SOSA, historic homes in Heritage Hills, and sculptures in Midtown before heading back to the Arts District.
