We will sail on kayak through the most conserved channels of Xochimilco wetland. During the tour, we will tell you about the history of the place and its importance to the sustainability of Mexico City. In your way, you will recognize the biological richness like birds, snakes, frogs and plants. We will arrive at a chinampa where you can get your hands dirty experiencing the ancestral technique of cultivation and discovering why it is considered a world heritage. Also, you will get involve in the diary activities in the chinampa like crop irrigation, harvest or seeding. Before going back to land, you will have time to relax and enjoy the peace of the place. I've been working in Xochimilco's wetland for 10 years, arrived to the site thanks to my posgraduate project, which involved the restoration of axolotl populations on refuges. I fell in love with its cultural and biological charming, from the ancestral chinampas to the beatiful migratory birds. Since then, the team and I, have been working to show its magic to people of all ages and nationalities, so they can be embassadors of Xochimilco's conservation efforts all around the world.
Humedalia works to achieve the conservation of wetlands around Mexico. Its work in Xochimilco has been centered on promote the sustainable development through recovery the traditional cultive practicies. They firmly believe that the nature conservation objectives will only be achieved by jointly promoting respect for nature and the history-culture of the communities.
