Come spend a relaxing couple of hours learning the slow craft of spoon carving. This is not a race to the finish kind of class. We will go over knife safety, knife grips, and different kinds of knife strokes and practice in a stick before going onto your spoon blank. We axe out the spoon blanks before you arrive , so all you have to do is enjoy carving your spoon. There will be periodic breaks, and hand stretching as well as an axing demo by Erik so you can see how a spoon blank is made. This class will last three hours.
Michele & Erik
Erik and Michele have been spoon carving since 2013 and teachers of green wood carving since 2015. Erik and Michele have been featured in Msp Magazine as Makers of the North competition. They currently host classes in thier studio and at various spaces around the city including Ingebtretsens Scandinavian Market and Fool Proof work space. Finding influence from Erik’s Norwegian heritage and our visits back to his dads farm in Norway, the couple hope to share what they’ve come to appreciate from the lifestyle and culture of Norway with thier students.
We will host our class inside our workshop/ studio which is open by appointment only. Inside you will have access to use our tools, browse spoons we’ve made and collected from other makers. Our space is a former store front built in the 1920’s.

You will be carving a spoon from fresh green wood. We will be using knives and spoon hooks to make our spoon. Hand strength and an open mind to a new experience are helpful. Left handed welcome too.
