After travelling from Donostia to Zarautz by train, we will start our hike in the small city of Zarautz, where we'll visit the old town and market, to understand how the society of the basque coast has evolved through time. Afterwards, we will follow the very old "Camino del Norte" up the hill. It'll be challenging at the beginning, but we'll walk near a centuries old chapel, admire vast D.O. Getariako Txakolina vineyards and the colourful rural landscape by the ocean, everything while you learn about this incredible ancient route and region. As a great reward to hour effort and instead a common pilgrim's day, we will descend the hill and stop at my favourite DO Getariako Txakolina winery, where they'll show you how they produce the local white wine in a more responsible and environmentally friendly way. There'll be wine tasting, snacks and we'll have a great moment with the family that owns and run the vineyard. We can even get some bottles for a cheaper price than in the stores if you want! We will finish our experience wondering between the narrow medieval streets of Getaria, where the biggest sailor of all time lived and where the architecture has remained untouched for centuries. I'll be more than happy to suggest places for eating after this experience or assist you on your way back home. Come and lets hike and drink!
Hi there! My names is Angel and I'm a nature & wine lover, freelance tour guide and hill walker. Environmental manager in the past and now nature tour guide, I also run other nature based experiences in the Basque country. I live next to Getaria, the land of the DO Getariako Txakolina white wine, and this astonishing section of the Way of Saint James. As an experienced hiker, while studying tourisms and hiking this beautiful coast I met a family that is the only one producing Txakoli in a more environmentally responsible way in the area (since around 100 years!) and felt in love immediately. Not just because of the great taste, but because I know the environmental impacts that viticulture can have in nature and knowing that they care, really gave me hope.
At the vineyard you'll get to try the local Anchovies and White Tuna coupled with the wine.
At the vineyard we'll sample three of their Txakoli wines
One way train ticket from Donostia to Zarautz
A makila traditional walking stick and a poncho in case of rain.
During our walk we will visit a family run DO GetariakoTxakolina winery where we'll get the chance to try and buy some locally and responsibly produced Txakoli white wine at a cheaper price than in the stores. We'll walk a less common part of the Way of Saint James, walking by buildings that have stories from 2000 year ago until nowadays.
最多可有8位年满18周岁的参与者参加。家长也可携带2岁以下的儿童参加。 You must like white wine and hill walking...who does not?!
The hike is very easy and less than 5km between the two villages but if you are suffering from hearth problems or are not comfortable with doing proper physical activities I wouldn't recommend it.
