This walking photography workshop will make several stops throughout Halifax's historic downtown core including a ferry trip across our beautiful harbour! My aim throughout the workshop is to share the beauty of Halifax while providing practical tips on how you can take better photos, not just in Halifax but anywhere you travel! Our first 3 locations will be the educational stops where we'll discuss a few photographic principles that will help you create more interesting pictures. After that, you'll have plenty of time to practice these new concepts as we explore the city further. If you don't have a big fancy DSLR camera, don't worry! Everything I'm going to cover can be applied to smartphone photography as well. That said, if you have a DSLR camera, bring it!
A few years ago I was selected by Photographers Without Borders to shoot photos in Ghana, West Africa. It was a remarkable experience and one that helped deepen my passion for both travel & photography. As I continue to travel with my camera I try to get off the beaten path as much as possible, but I also welcome the challenge of photographing well-known landmarks in new and interesting ways. In my workshop, you'll get to do both.
I'll take you into my world and show you how a local photographer moves through the city. We'll find unique angles to shoot, discover local hangouts, venture both on a off the beaten path, which will give you a real sense of what Halifax is all about! For parts of the tour that are a little more "touristy" my goal is to use photography to help you experience them in a unique way, advance your photographic knowledge and develop a new skill.
Camera or smart phone
Although photography is the lens through which I'm going to frame this tour, even people with little interest in photography will have a good time (i.e. bring your reluctant partner if you have one!)
