First, I will share my story of how I discovered Merida, found the house, and recruited the professionals for the three-year restoration project. Then I will take you on a tour through all of the interior and exterior spaces, sharing tips and entertaining your questions along the way. You will have an opportunity to see photos of the house prior to renovation. Finally, I will leave you on your own to explore, take photos, or just enjoy the ambiance of each and every space. This experience is ideal for architects, designers and those who are considering buying or restoring a colonial home in this beautiful city.
I moved to Merida, Mexico eight years ago to restore an abandoned 19th Century Spanish home in the historic colonial center of the city. I worked with a local architect and local artisans for three years to restore the house and make it my dream home. In the process, I learned first-hand the dos and don'ts of home restoration that are unique to the Yucatan. I have been giving tours of my home for charity and providing advice to people wanting to restore Merida homes for 6 years.
You will be able to experience every room in the house and every outdoor space. Each has been carefully designed with its own unique look and feel. Once you enter the home, you will never want to leave.
There are two steps down into the front room from the entry. There is a tall spiral staircase up to the rooftop terrace. Restrooms are available for guest use.
