What: Start visiting Florence from the real Florence! The Oltrarno in historic Florence is the area most concentrated with locals, artists, and typical traditions. Together, we will explore this quarter like Italian experts. Where: Lonely Planet rated the area as one of the world's 10 coolest neighborhoods to visit and all you have to do is cross the "Ponte Vecchio". Adventurous visitors will be still in the historical centre of Florence, but a little off the beaten path. How: After a brief introduction of the history of Florence and the “royal” Medici family, I will take you by workshops, markets, antiques, little churches and quiet squares without losing sight of the great artists of the Renaissance and their masterpieces. Every stop will give us the opportunity to talk about what makes the Oltrarno such peculiar part of Florence. I will reveal to you hidden secrets and anecdotes as well as insight how those in Oltrarno live their lives now. I will give you tips and recommandation for the best places for a glass of wine, seeing some live music, or enjoying an unforgettable tuscan dinner.
Ciao, my name is Elia, I'm an Official Tour Guide in Florence, the city in which I was born and raised. A few years after earning a business degree, my passion for art and history took over. Now, I dedicate my time to take visitors around my city and describe its exciting history. My goal is to transmit its spirit and its creative and ingenious character, Florence can be ironic and sometimes even derisive as well. Let's explore and find new ways to appreciate Florence together and discover the beauty that surrounds the Florentines every day.
I'll take you to the less touristy places and I'll show you the typical Florentine way of life and the historic workshops (could be closed on Sunday morning). We will walk through my favorite streets of Florence, admire Renaissance buildings, and visit the iconic Santo Spirito church designed by Brunelleschi in which there are conserved hidden treasures. I won't omit the wine and the food; two very relevant and delicious aspects of Florence
We will walk or stand most of the time, so confortable shoes are recommended. Water or toilets are easy to find long our tour. Also a hat could be necessary during the summer.
