Ever wondered where Marie-Antoinette was imprisoned and put on trial? Or where Napoleon lived? Where did the guillotine slice off 1119 heads during the Reign of Terror? And why did the Revolution happen in the first place? On this experience, you'll discover the answer to these and many other fascinating questions as we walk in the footsteps of those who lived through the great events of 1789-1815. What makes this experience particularly exciting is how much Paris has changed since the Revolution. I want to lead you on a search for its lost traces, hidden from those who don't know where to look. Along the way, I'll feed your imagination with a selection of paintings, engravings and photographs to show you Paris as I see it and as revolutionaries such as Danton and Robespierre would have known it. And of course, I'll share with you the story of the Revolution and Napoleon in a way which follows the sights we see and leaves you with a sense of how this period has shaped the world we live in today. Whether you're completely new to French history or an aspiring expert, our small group sizes allow me to cater the experience with you in mind. And with over 200 five-star reviews so far and an average rating of 4.99, the chances are you'll be glad you came along.
Hi I'm Benjamin, “I wish I had a history teacher like you when I was at school” is one of the nicest things I hear from parents and guests and it epitomises what I aim to be as a historian. Expertise? Most definitely. Contagious enthusiasm? Indispensible. Making history fun and exciting? My daily ambition. The past 7 years I have spent, both teaching in a Paris Middle School and leading history walks in Paris and at Versailles, has shaped my approach. I am a professionally licensed guide and pride myself on the depth of my research, but as a teacher it doesn’t matter if a child leaves the classroom impressed by my knowledge. My experiences are centred on my guests and my aim is to inspire you to love history as I do. Ultimately, I want you to leave Paris happy and talking about my experience as one of the highlights of your trip.
Our walk will take us past the must-see sights of Paris' historic centre including Napoleon's tomb at the Invalides, The National Assembly, Concorde Square, The Tuilleries Gardens, The Louvre, Pont Neuf and the Latin Quarter.
Please aim to arrive 10 minutes before the start of the experience; I will be there to greet you. If you are late, the experience may start without you :( The tour ends near Odeon metro (lines 4/10).
