The Claddagh ring experience takes in some of the main sights of Galway with a visits to a Claddagh ring workshop and one of the more famous Claddagh ring jewellers. (NOTE: Visit to a maker is unavilable due to COVID 19 restrictions at the moment).After passing through the stunning Latin quarter and Spanish arch areas of Galway we see some of the works of Richard Joyce, the hero of the Claddagh ring legend and maker (probably) of the first Claddagh ring sold commercially.
After few tales of the folklore of the Claddagh we head up into the village itself. In Katie's cottage, a re-built Claddagh cottage we can enjoy a coffee or tea and a cake (included) in authentic surroundings.
Galway City is a compact city well suited to this leisurely stroll through a medieval, picturesque masterpiece.
Other things to note
The walking is very gentle, although the walk up to Katies cottage takea approx 10 mins. Those with reduced mobility may wish to book a taxi to return to town

- I really enjoyed my tour with Neil. He was extremely personable, and the afternoon was a nice mix of history and just chatting to get to know someone really nice. Due to COVID, he tailored the tour with some changes, but I felt like I got the history and sightseeing that I was hoping for. I would highly recommend any of the tours with Neil, as he is more than happy to make adjustments according to your preference as well.
- The Claddagh tour was very interesting, Galway is a stunningly beautiful city and Neil showed us around and told us a lot of very interesting stories about the town and the history of the Claddagh ring. It was a bit disappointing not to be able to see the rings being made but this is due to Covid restrictions and can’t really be helped. Neil was very friendly and personable and made us feel very welcome.
- Neil is an experienced host. He will provide best insight and enjoyable tidbits. Speaks to culture, past political involvement, and other famous guests interaction. Ends with a good place to snack & warm up as well as provide great suggestions for later use. Definitely a must-do upon arrival, the story of the clauddagh is repeated a fewtimes in this area of the coast but nowhere as detailed and finesse as Neil's different versions.
