Prepare to learn ancestral dye techniques and discover amazing colors that only nature can provide. In this workshop you will not only learn historical facts and the recipes I have collected throughout the years, but you will also experiment with tones, mix ingredients and create formulas to obtain 30 different colors and develop a beautiful wall hanging for you to take home. Some of the pigment sources you will learn to use are indigo, cochineal, and seasonal herbs or flowers. Since all the materials come from nature, all the procedures are nontoxic and enviroment friendly.
I'm a Mexican textile artist who studied fashion design and fiber arts, I started learning Mexican textiles all around the country six years ago, It was in Oaxaca where I fell in love with the vibrant hues of ancient textiles. Since then I have developed several projects including a brand of artisanal backpacks using some of the materials and methods we will cover in this workshop.
Snacks I will also provide traditional Mexican snacks and candy.
Materials and tools I will provide pigments, mortar, clay pots, a scale, printed out formulas and a wall hanging.
The workshop will be held in the Escandón neighborhood, its very close to Roma and Condesa neighborhoods.
