With a history of over 160 years, Manhattan’s Chinatown is one of NYC’s oldest neighborhoods. Experience Chinatown through the intimate lens of the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act, the first U.S. law that banned an entire ethnic group from coming into this country for more than 60 years. Through our immersive tour, you’ll discover the dark origins of the neighborhood, hear stories of assimilation and sacrifice, and learn about the challenges that Chinese-Americans continue to face in pursuit of the American Dream.

Our journey through time begins at the statue of Lin Ze Xu, where you’ll learn about why the Chinese first came to America. Then, we’ll take you through the winding streets of Chinatown and show you the historical eateries, shops, and institutions that have shaped this community over the years. Learn about how this discriminatory law impacted these early immigrants and gave rise to the laundry, restaurant, and garment industries. We’ll end the tour by discussing the far-reaching effects of the Chinese Exclusion Act on the present-day immigrant experience and share our personal stories growing up as second-generation Chinese-Americans.

Whether you’ve come to Chinatown for years or it’s your first time, you’ll walk away (no pun intended) with a deeper understanding and appreciation of this storied neighborhood.

From the unsavory origins of chop suey to the violent past of the Bloody Angle, join us as we uncover the stories of a historically marginalized community. Highlighted sights include the Chinese Opera House, Mott Street fish market, Funeral Row, Columbus Park, the first tenement building, NYC's oldest row house, and stores that date back to the 1890s.

Tour was amazing! Chloe went into a great deal of detail about both the history of Chinatown and Chinese Americans as a people. Incredibly eye-opening stories about the lives of the earliest Chinese immigrants.

I had the most enjoyable and educational time on this experience! Chloe was friendly and very informative. She showed us the historical and cool places in Chinatown, New York, from the oldest working restaurant to the harsh conditions that Chinese immigrants experienced from the late 19th century to the 20th century. While on tour, she used her iPad and PowerPoint to show old-age photos of people living in Chinatown. And at the end of the experience, she provided us with printouts of restaurants and other places to visit. Overall, it was a wonderful and educational experience! ^^

Chole gave a great insight to the current state of Chinese Americans in the US and how this tied into the past. Excellent Tour! Highly recommend.

Chloe was a great host. She kept us engaged and was well informed, answering all questions we had. She took us on a journey through Chinatown and also through history. At the end, she gave us a list of great places to eat. I would definitely recommend this tour!

Educational and interesting-- even in the rain! Chloe knows her stuff. She seamlessly blends history with contemporary and sprinkles in restaurant recommendations and personal anecdotes into her tour. A must-do in NYC!
