Starting from the capital, our day begins with a short drive north to the Zagorje county. Home to winemakers and tradition, we have come here for a different reason. Focus of this experience is on "licitar hearts", known as the famous colorfully decorated biscuits made of sweet honey dough. During your visit, you must have seen them - small, heart-shaped ornaments. Nowadays, they are the traditional symbol of Zagreb. But how much do you actually know about them? Would you like to know more about their origin and how they became an intangible cultural heritage of Croatia? Answers can be found in Marija Bistrica, our destination for the day. Join me and learn everything you need to know about the licitars and how to make them in a small workshop that we will go through. You will be able to create your own licitar and decorate it in your own way. Later, we will go to the village of Marija Bistrica, the most known Croatian shrine of St. Mary, which has been the central place of worship of the Croatian people for centuries. What is Lourdes to the French, Fatima to the Portuguese, Loretto to the Italians, that is the picturesque Marija Bistrica to the Croatian people. Shortly after, we are going back to Zagreb.
