You will get a true modern farm experience on our diversified vegetable and animal farm. When you arrive, your hosts will explain how their urban farm is unique, sustainable and provides food to local schools. Next, you'll be led by Farmer Shayne and Farmer Hope to watch 'chicken TV' and be amazed at the social behaviors of the chickens, give a pig a belly rub and become part of the baby goat obstacle course. We will explain what you are seeing and how the animals contribute to the farm. Our animals are part of the farm and always treated with respect and love. Then Rachel,The Beecharmer, will show you the important work bees are doing on the farm and suit you up for a hive dive into the secret life of honey bees. Pollination is such an important part of farming and our bees live right here on our sustainable farm. You'll see the bees working together in the hive to make honey, collecting pollen in their 'pollen pockets' and if we are lucky we will spot the queen bee. Finally, you will try your hand at basic farm tasks while learning what it takes to raise vegetables and animals sustainably in the urban landscape. We will talk about how our farm is unique and why eating local makes you feel so great. You will taste a variety of vegetables as you harvest the freshest salad you will ever eat, sample honey from the hive and pick a bouquet of flowers to take home with you.

I am an experienced beekeeper or " beecharmer", passionate about connecting people with bees! I charms hives at urban farms, community gardens and backyards. I found my love of bees as a high school science teacher and I'm currently part of the California Master Beekeeper Program. My passion is connecting people with bees! My co-hosts, Farmer Shayne and Farmer Hope are graduates of the California Farm Academy and have been urban farmers together since 2015. Shayne has been farming for many years and was a middle school science teacher. Hope's farming roots began growing as a school garden coordinator. We are inspired to share the food they grow, love of farming and the joy of bees through our connections to the community, providing fresh food to local school and hosting field trips to connect others with urban agriculture.
Seasonal vegetables and/or fruits to create a shared salad and honey to taste.
Basic Farm Equipment, Beekeeping Suits and Gloves
Fiery Ginger Farm is a truly urban farm. We are located in West Sacramento on 2 acres of land transformed into a space to grow food and raise animals. You will find crops growing, goats, pigs and chickens along with honey bees on our farm.
A hat to shade you from the sun
We'll be outside and while there are shady trees around, there's no AC in nature. It can be very hot and wearing a hat will make you feel 10 degrees cooler. Sturdy, close-toed shoes are a must. Wear clothes that are ok to get a little dirty playing on the farm. Park on the street in front of shop.
