Get to know Ghent, one of Belgium’s best kept secrets, in a new way by taking a tour with us. Do you want to explore the medieval city centre by staying off the beaten track? Hop in a kayak with us for a guided tour! You don’t need to be an athlete to take our tour: we adjust the pace and intensity to each individual group. Above all, we aim to keep things fun. From the water, you get a unique perspective on the city. We start at 10.30 a.m. at the 'Bijlokekaai' and get back there by 1 p.m. We show you how the rivers influenced Ghent’s history and how it keeps on defining the city today. The tour takes you along the medieval port and the impressive architecture of the new library De Krook, before ending up in the mesmerizing heart of the city. Some basic kayaking experience is required, but our main aim is to keep things fun and relaxing. An extra set of dry clothes may come in handy, although the tour gets cancelled when it rains heavily.
We are Maarten en Pieter, and are your guides for this unique kayak tour. We both studied in Ghent and ended up living here because we were charmed by its medieval architecture, rich history and vibrant scene. By now, we both lived in this city for over 15 years and definitely plan to stay. Pieter took part in half marathons abroad, Maarten enjoys kayaking and cycling when on holiday. When sharing our experiences with each other, we started thinking: why not do the same in our own hometown, and offer visitors the experience to explore Ghent in a unique, active way? Maarten is a formally trained guide and Pieter is on his way of becoming one. During the kayak tour, we enjoy telling you about the history and the future of the city, and share our personal perspective and stories with you!

The tour has about 10 stops. We start at the medieval abbey and hospital de Bijloke, and will paddle along the Coupure, the futuristic library and innovation hub De Krook', through the tunnels that lead up to the newly reopened waters the Reep. Of course, we will not miss the vibrant medieval harbour and the medieval castle Gravensteen.
