This 3 hour group class focuses on the three following hand-building techniques: pinch pots, coiling, slab construction, surface decoration and underglazing. We will start by building pieces using various kinds of clay, and finish by adding beautiful colours to your pieces. Your work will stay with us for a few weeks in order to be fired and glazed, and we can mail you the finished product at an additional cost. Get ready to get your hands dirty and create a one of a kind ceramic work of art.
I am the owner and operator of Mud Makers Studio. I'm an educator and artist with a background in fine arts and special education. I hold an Interdisciplinary BFA, B.Ed, Ontario Teacher Certificate, and have spent the last 6 years teaching visual and media arts in Toronto schools. I'm passionate about sharing my love for ceramics by empowering visitors to explore their own creativity and to have a good time doing it. Classes at the studio are designed for all ages and abilities. Everyone is welcome!
Our hand building class will take place in a unique light filled neighbourhood studio. It's across the street from the Museum of Contemporary Art, an independent book store, a restaurant and a local brewery in a building housing many other art studios and small businesses. It's not easy to find without planning ahead, but once you find us, you'll be happy you looked!
You don't need anything except yourself for this experience. We will provide all materials. If you'd like to get a bite before or after there are several cafes and a restaurant nearby. There are approximately 30 stairs to climb leading up to the studio which you'll find by entering DOOR B.
