You'll get a personal look into the shooting process of a documentary film by a professional filmmaker and learn how to apply it to your own travel videos. We'll meet to outline how to plan for and execute the production of professional-looking short travel videos. We'll cover everything from when to shoot, how to work with natural lighting, how to film local residents responsibly, best methods to shoot short interviews as well as b-roll. Be prepared to jump into the action and get hands-on experience with professional camera gear. Or use your phone and shoot your own short video.
I'm an Emmy-winning filmmaker from NYC who has 15+ years of experience producing short documentary films for UN/NGO agencies. I've traveled extensively around the world as a one-person crew shooting in remote locations. I also teach international digital storytelling workshops and LOVE IT! Join me as I teach you the basics of shooting - with a professional camera or your cell phone - so that you too can take amazing travel photos and videos to document your trip!
My traveling shooting kit includes a Canon 5d Mark III, Manfafort tripod, and a shotgun mic. Participants will take turns…
We will meet at the Mombasa Intercontinental Hotel outdoor venue on the beach for the first hour to meet and discuss shooting techniques to get best video footage. We will then venture onto the beach to do some hands-on shooting of the ocean, landscape, interviews with local artist Kaa La Moto and broll. Then we will return to the venue for the last half-hour for a wrap-up to prepare yourself for your own travel videos!
