On top of a ridge at the edge of the Blue Ridge Mountains is a rustic studio. It awaits your presence to teach you the ancient art of Silversmithing & Metalsmithing, letting your creativity soar. We will fabricate together, learning how to design & layout on metals. How to use hand tools, cutting, filing, shaping & polishing. Ending with a pendant, earrings, rings or a piece of metal art. You will leave with Your Own Creation from "Sa ka na ga" Cherokee for The Great Blue Hills of God.
Joy Spirithawk Evans has a long career in the arts, spanning over 40 years. With numerous art awards early on she chose to pursue sign & design for the first part of her career. This lead to owning her own business & training others in that field. After 15 years a new path developed leading her to make her living following her passions, Silversmithing & Period Correct Re-enactment. Traveling in her handmade buckskins, shooting bows & arrows she crafted, wearing silver and turquoise, has been a great learning experience and enabled her to touch on her Cherokee roots. She is the Metalsmith at Hagood Mill and does Artist Residencies across the South East teaching Silversmithing/Metalsmithing classes to carry on that age old tradition.
