Join me to explore the tales from Los Angeles’ lost French quarter and Southern California’s forgotten French community. You’ll learn everything from the ‘joie’ of the early days, to the darker side of it’s murderous past. Stemming from my original research into the long-ignored French community in my native Southern California, I’ll take you on a stroll through the oldest parts of L.A. There, we’ll visit select surviving locations, touch on lost locations, and hear stories you won’t hear on any other walking tour.
Hi, I'm C.C., I have been researching Los Angeles’ lost French community since 2013 and have mapped about 500 sites historically associated with French and French-speaking Angelenos. I know where all the surviving locations are - and where the lost ones used to be. I also know, and will tell you, stories long forgotten by everyone else.
We’ll start at the former site of California’s first commercial vineyard (really!), wind through Frenchtown’s historic core (since absorbed by another neighborhood), and spend some time in two adjoining neighborhoods that have the highest concentration of surviving locations associated with French Angelenos.
最多可有10位年满13周岁的参与者参加。 Guests should be able to alternate walking and standing for approximately two hours.
Comfortable walking shoes
Meet on Commercial Street outside the parking garage. I will be carrying a French flag. There are a few public restrooms on the route. Be sure to wear good walking shoes. Bring water and snacks if you need them. If you are using the parking garage, it’s currently $12 for all-day parking.
