Visiting a bog is fun in every season! Viru bog is probably the most accessible bog in Estonia during all seasons. It passes through the forest and bog landscapes characteristic of Lahemaa National Park. It is a mixture of incredibly diverse landscapes, bog pools, strips, and hollows. The hiking trail is 6 km long and has a foot path leading through a pine forest and a boardwalk in the middle of picturesque bogs. During the hike, we will cross the bog islands and admire the landscape from an observation tower in the middle of the bog. We will visit a peat milling field, former sand dunes and heath forest. To keep our energy level up we will have a relaxing break at the campfire where we'll enjoy typical Estonian soup with black bread, some mulled wine or tea and chat about the significance of bogs for the biota or anything else you´d like to know about Estonia. We will end the journey by hiking in the eskers surrounding the bog. And of course, if you like dogs, we will bring at least 2 with us for the hike. Lets get energized and have some fun in the nature!
I am an entrepreneur, nature enthusiast and dog (animal) lover. I have lived in Spain, France and the USA for almost 10 years. Since I moved back to Estonia I started a dog home boarding side business as a hobby 4 years ago Since then I have regularly taken groups of people for long nature hikes in bogs, forests, nature trails, beaches and other most beautiful places in Estonia together with the dogs. I host this experience with my good friend and fellow nature enthusiast Lauri who works as a lawyer but shares my passion for nature and hiking. We both have been hosts on Airbnb for many years as well. We are always happy to meet new people, have fun together and show you around!
We will offer typical traditional Estonian soup with black bread but if you have some dietary requirements we can take…
We will offer warm tea and mulled wine for the break at the campfire.
We will pick you up in our car and take you back to your place of stay afterwards.
Viru Bog is located at around 50 km from Tallinn. The hiking trail itself is 6 km long and has a well maintained board walk leading through the picturesque bogs. During the hike, we will cross the bog islands, take advantage of the numerous photo opportunities, admire the landscape from an observation tower, visit a peat milling field, former sand dunes and heath forest. Most importantly we will simply enjoy the nature.
We will be able to pick you up from your hotel or place of stay with our car on the day of the hike and take you back as well :)
