We'll meet at a pre-specified location, generally by your hotel or a place what you prefer in the vicinity of Porto. We leave the meeting point prepared for the ride. This means that we are dressed in cycling gear (clothing, shoes), and bringing all the necessary gear with us (gloves, helmet, glasses, etc). We'll go with my cool Japanese van from the '80s to the starting point of the ride. This can take 15-30 minutes, depending on the meeting point. When we arrived, I unload the van, mount your pedals (optional, if you bring your own) do the bike fitting, fill the bottles, and we prepare ourselves for the ride. Then we just roll and enjoy the pure beauty of the Serras do Porto mountains from behind (handle)bars :) The ride takes 4-5 hours, depending on the physical conditions and the technical knowledge of the group. The route is more or less 45 km and 1500 m+ elevation. The terrain in some places is rocky, we'll do single tracks, scenic roads, epic climbs and enjoyable downhill sections. You will see rivers, mountains, typical Portuguese villages, great views of the city of Porto from above. We'll do a quick lunch stop as well along the route. After the ride, we return to the van, relax a bit, we'll have a refreshing drink, and then I bring you back to the meeting point, where the whole adventure started.
I have started mountain biking when I was 12 years old, and I am riding ever since (23 years now). I was racing during 8 years in MTB OX (Olympic Cross) and I have participated in the World Championship and European Championship in 2003, and several World Cups along the years. I ride, run and do sports whenever I can. This passion for outdoors eventually led me to change my professional life. I created my own company called Wheel Nuts Cyclotouring and I organize personalized bicycle and walking tours in Portugal, focusing mainly on cycling and mountain biking from beginner to advanced level. In my free time I explore the Portuguese outdoors. I live here for almost a decade now with my wife and my son, and we consider this awesome country our home now. I would love to share my knowledge and experiences with you!

The ride itself starts in the outskirts of Porto, in a city called Valongo. We'll ride in the Serras do Porto mountain range, which surrounds the city from the North-East until the River Douro. We go to viewpoints, where we can appreciate the view of the magnificent city of Porto, and also the view of the mountains and valleys. We'll visit typical Portuguese villages, and stop for lunch in a authentic little restaurant to eat.
This is an advanced mountain bike tour, developed for those, who have passion for this sport. You should be fit, and practice MTB for a longer period before you book this tour. The terrain is sometimes rough, and there are technical parts and steep climbs in the route. Bottom line: Tons of fun!!!
