At the prearranged place and time I pick you up, then we go by van/car to the village of Areinho, which takes more or less 1,5 hour. The hike starts in this village, in the valley of the Paiva River, in the heart of the Arouca Geopark. After we arrive, we hop out of the van and prepare ourselves for the hike. During this preparation time, I will introduce to you the Arouca Geopark and the speak a bit about the history of the Paiva Walkways. We pack our lunchboxes in our backpacks than we enter the Paiva Walkway. We walk gently in a pace which permits to look around well, to take pictures whenever you want. The idea is to observe and to connect with this fantastic place while we do an 8 km hike. We'll stop more or less halfway through the walk to eat our lunch. Counting with an average pace, it takes 2,5-3 hours to complete the route. After exiting the walkway, we walk a little bit until the parking spaces and take a refreshing drink at the buffet there. While you'll enjoy your drink, a taxi takes me to the starting point to pick up the van, then I drive to the endpoint and pick you up. This takes more or less 30 minutes. Afterwards we drive back to Porto, which will take 1,5 hours again, just like in the morning.
I started hiking when I was a little boy. My parents, my brother and me went for a hike almost every Sunday in the nearby forest and hills. We had this habit for years which developed in me a strong bond with nature and with the outdoor activities. I ride bicycles, run and do sports whenever I can ever since. This passion for outdoors eventually led me to change my professional life. I created my own company called Wheel Nuts Cyclotouring and I organize personalized bicycle and walking tours in Portugal, focusing mainly on cycling and mountain biking from beginner to advanced level. In my free time I explore the Portuguese outdoors. I live here for almost a decade now with my wife and my son, and we consider this awesome country our home now. I would love to share my knowledge and experiences with you!
