New baby goat, Blaze! Arriving on the farm, guests are shown into the barn and given an introduction to our set up. We will talk about how to get started with animals and what kind of space, housing, equipment, and feed are needed. We will go over safety rules that will include how to stand, move, talk with our barnyard friends. We will first visit through the fence in the barn or the yard. Depending on the size of the group, we can bring an animal or two into the barn to pet or we can walk out into the pasture to visit with them there. We can take a pasture walk--it's about a mile long-- around our property and take in some great views. Finally, we will have a snack break and I can answer anyone's questions about what we have here on the farm and how someone can do it themselves. Mostly we just interact with the friendly animals.. Families--please note--children under 7 years are free with a paying parent--one child/one parent. When booking, if you are a family of five with two parents and three children under 7, book as though you are three people. Please just let us know how many children and their ages. We are adding late afternoon/early evening visits. This is a special time when all the barnyard animals are going to bed. it is a delight to sit with the chickens while they find their roost for the night and the goats are quieting down. Check the calendar or just ask
I have been an AirBnB host for 1 1/2 years and have been managing our "petting zoo" for a year. Our guests have so enjoyed interacting with our friendly pasture pets. Taking care of them is almost a full time job. I have learned so much through daily observation in the barnyard and through different internet sources. Yippee for YouTube! I recently retired from a career in the theatre and it means a lot to have something new to study and grow into. Farm life provides for rich meditative moments. The opportunity to share what I have been able to build so far and showing people what is possible for themselves is a great gift.
Our snack will be assorted cookies with a gluten free option.
Depending on weather, we will have coffee, tea and hot chocolate or bottled water and seltzer.
We have a number of pair of rubber boots in various sizes for guests who might need them.
We will be spending most of our time in the barn and barnyard here on the farm. Both areas are wheelchair accessible. Guests can walk the pastures above or can rest and take in the country setting around the house. There are great views from anywhere and city folks don't often have a chance to sit quietly under big trees and feel the breeze. If the weather is inclement, we can head into our studio room for questions and visiting.
最多可有8位年满3周岁的参与者参加。 Guests should be comfortable around dogs and cats.
Our rooster does not appreciate folks in red caps. We clean the barnyard daily but be prepared for some poop. Gentle is the guiding principle in the barnyard. While goats are pretty rough and tumble, our donkeys need to be approached slowly. Wear clothes that can get dirty and closed toe shoes.
