体验内容

On our private tour of the treatment facility, the knowledgeable Michael Ruiz, Chief Plant Operator of the Donald C. Tillman (DCT) Water Reclamation Plant, will show us the plant's processes. Then, we'll go out into the field to see these processes in action, including a trip through the underground pipe galleys.

Afterwards, we'll embark on an exclusive guided tour through much of the 6.5-acre garden designed by world-famous designer Dr. Koichi Kawara. We will witness the 2.75-acre lake that is filled with the plant's treated water and learn about many of the very intentional designs and aspects of the garden from the very knowledgable Japanese Garden board member Michael Fritzen.

Hi. I'm Ben, a member of the Atlas Obscura community.

I am someone always seeking out strange, intriguing, off-the-beaten-path, and under-the-radar venues and locations in and around Los Angeles. I am fascinated with the intricate systems in place in our city and learning about how they work and then sharing that knowledge. As a seeker of serene, peaceful settings, I am also very intrigued with Japanese gardens and the history and intention behind the way in which they are meticulously constructed.

We will be joined by Michael Ruiz, Chief Plant Operator of the Donald C. Tillman (DCT) Water Reclamation Plant, as well as Japanese Garden board member Michael Fritzen, whose credits include work with the Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County, Los Angeles Zoo, Autry Museum, and The Huntington.

The setting was unique and a terrific juxtaposition. The plant is impressive, and how they are reclaiming and using this particular water is dramatic and wonderful. Going inside and walking all around - the route the water takes - was informative and again impressive.

What a totally unique experience that was! I felt proud to be living in a city that is actively pursuing water re-use and conservation. It was so amazing to see this plant and how it transforms sewage into usable water. I had no idea it was right in my city. The Japanese gardens that it maintains through its transformed sewage were so thoughtful and gorgeous. Turning sewage into beauty. Who could ask for more!

Very cool view into two totally unique worlds! The trip is split into two halves – first exploring the water reclamation plant, and then exploring the Japanese garden. Both amazing and totally different, but with a symbiotic relationship to one another. Learned so much about two completely different things from our excellent, expert guides.

Very interesting tour. This is not a tour you would ever be able to do on your own and you learn so much about the plant and the process. Wonderful tour
