We will meet in the village of Ollioules, have a visit around and discuss the history. On market days we will visit the market, otherwise we will start to go up to the ancient castle. And from there we will climb the easy marked trail all the way up to the plateau of Gros Cerveau (Big Brain) with outstanding views. Access to the trail head is not well marked, hence most tourists miss out on this incredible experience.
I’ve had a love affair with Provence for over 15 years. An avid traveler, writer and a historical researcher, my specialty is reconstituting micro-histories of buildings and houses. A digital marketing professional for the last 15 years, I decided to get off the computer and do what I loves doing since my college days – getting lost in culture, history, natural and urban beauty. I am an avid hiker, having trekked extensively in South America, the Indian Subcontinent and the French Alpes. I even climbed the Mont Blanc !! I live in Provence, in the authentic village of Ollioules, with my two restless children and a badly scratched Peugeot. I know every corner, alleyway, shop and restaurant. I have been hiking these trails around my village for years that nobody knows except locals for years, and now I want to open it to the world.
Except for October-December, I can arrange a tasty visit to the 130 year old local Nougat factory. Delicious!
Ollioules welcomes us to the foothills of its feudal castle and invites us to discover, over the stream of water and its fountains, over thirty artisans, and a colorful and thriving market on Thursdays and Saturdays. We will stroll the alleys in the medieval district, look at the ancient houses and tell stories. Climb to the "Big Brain" ridge, tell what happened here, and look out over the village and mesmerizing sea and the fleet of Toulon.
The hike includes a comfortable trail that goes up and then back down the same way. It is not flat ground. It is not difficult, but moderately strenuous. Suitable for children age 8+.
